TNT and television series creator Cynthia Cidre (Cane) are working on a plan to relaunch the 1980s prime-time soap Dallas for the next generation.
While a movie version of the famous show has been trapped in development hell for years (at one time John Travolta was being eyed for the big screen version of texas oilman J.R. Ewing), this new Dallas TV show may forgo reimagining or recasting and instead continue the story on using the now-grown children of the Ewing clans. TNT's original idea was to center their new series around J.R. and Sue Ellen's son John Ross and Bobby and Pam's adopted son Christopher, leaving the door open for some of the original show's stars to appear in the new series. However, TNT has now given Cidre the latitude to come up with her own vision for a new Dallas show. She's working on a pilot script.
While TNT is developing its Dallas series, the rights to the movie Dallas are still with New Regency.
