Count the number of face punches in Road House
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, February 21, 2012
Watching Road House is not quite a guilty pleasure of mine; I'm not ashamed to say that I like it for what it is, something mindless, entertaining and absolutely implausible. Law enforcement doesn't seem to exist in the universe of Road House, which makes me suspect that it takes place a couple of states over from where the action in The Dukes of Hazzard is going down.
Patrick Swayze made a lot of really fun popcorn action movies, like this, Red Dawn, Steel Dawn, Uncommon Valor and Point Break. When judged on paper, all of these flicks would seem like they're going to be B-movie losers. With Swayze, they actually rise higher than anyone could have suspected. If only Hollywood knew the power that Patrick Swayze had to make forgettable action films transmutate into movies that you have to watch when you stumble across them on a rainy Saturday afternoon, then Leviathan, Freejack, Hollow Man and a ton of other losers might have been actually rewatchable.
Where was I? Oh yeah: Road House. One day I'll have to write a 2,000 word dissertation about how this film is really an allegory about how grassroot co-operatives can triumph over the ruthless corporatism of unchecked greed, but for now our entertainment must come from a compilation of all of Road House's punches to human faces. This beloved gift comes courtesy of Red Letter Media, creators of the infamous Star Wars Episode I review (now in 3D!).
In all of those rainy Saturday afternoons spent watching Road House, I never realized just how many punches to the face Dalton and his friends/enemies took. It's like they all studied under Chuck Norris or something.
Road House, I love you.
