Monkey business for a t-shirt business

The Chop Shop has a new movie themed t-shirt design that's been added to their collection. These guys are the ones that created a t-shirt featuring the silhouettes of 50 robots from the silver screen and television, an article of clothing that I'm proud to say I possess and even wear occasionally.

Lando Calrissian is the Blackstar Warrior

In the 12 years since Kevin Rubio's Troops launched the Star Wars fan film craze there's been many subsequent short films set in that galaxy far, far away. Most of them have been done as dramas/adventures, with a few comedies thrown in for good measure. But even with all of the Star Wars fan films that have been made to date, you're telling me that no one has thought up a blacksploitation fan film starring the coolest cat this side of Bespin, Lando Calrissian?

The Pro gets a short show

If any given talent working in comic books today were to attempt to write a book about a low-class street whore that gets superpowers, that person needed to be Garth Ennis. Of course, Ennis did wind up writing that book. Called The Pro, it was released eight years ago as a one-shot. Now its inker, Jimmy Palmiotti, has created a short animated film setting up the origins of the world's first superhero hooker and how tough it is for a working girl to earn a living, both as a streetwalker and as a crime-fighting caped crusader.

Comic-Con 2010 Thursday line-up

The San Diego Comic-Con has finally posted its Thursday schedule of programming this year's event. There's quite a number of panels devoted strictly to movies and television shows, with a number of high profile actors, directors, writers and producers scheduled to make appearances at their respective presentations. I've pulled out the highlights as they pertain to Hollywood and the movies CA covers. Don't forget that this year's Masters of the Web panel is also happening on Thursday @ 3 PM.

Great Scott! Back to the Future power laces Nikes are real!

A guy named Blake Bevin made himself a pair of honest-to-gosh working power lacing Nike sneakers, a crude prototype of the kind that Michael J. Fox put on in Back to the Future Part II. We're now just five years away from the 2015 that BttF2 showed us, a future where there will be flying cars, hoverboards, hologram theaters and self-lacing Nike sneakers. What's kind of scary is that there seems to be more people online that want to bring about the creation of power laces than flying car technology.

Behold the world's only Unbreakable action figure

Can it really be 10 years since M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable came out? I guess so. Back then the wave of superhero movies hadn't yet truly taken hold of Hollywood; there wasn't Tobey Maguire swinging around as Spider-Man or Christopher Nolan's nipple-less Batman on the scene. And while M.N.S. gave us his take on the origin story of a superhero and his yang, Unbreakable's place in the superhero movie pantheon seems to have been lost amidst the higher profile Marvel and DC heroes' getting their movies in the '00s.

There's still 6 months before Tron Legacy comes out and it's already got a fan film

Generally speaking when the fan community starts producing videos of their favorite movie franchises it's a sign of the popularity of the trademark. While there's been a ton of Star Wars and Star Trek fan films there hasn't been any set in the universe of Tron. Perhaps it has something to do with the dated look of the 1982 movie as anyone attempting to create Tron's neon-tinted digital world on today's computers would probably produce something that looks better than what we saw 28 years ago.

Wonder Woman gets a makeover

The first lady of DC Comics has got a new look and backstory. With yesterday's publication of Wonder Woman #600 the Amazonian Princess known as Diana has had her look updated to better reflect the modern era. However, the question has arose as to whether old fans will approve of Wonder Woman's new look and whether the makeover will attract more readers to the character and comic book.

100 great movie insults in 10 minutes

One of the online movie blogging community's best original gems are the regular video compilations posted by Pajiba. Up to this point the editor of the Get Out of There and 100 Cheesiest Movie Lines of All Time videos had preferred to remain anonymous. With his latest release, The 100 Greatest Movie Insults of All Time, he's stepped out into the spotlight. His name is Harry Hanrahan. He's British, too.

AT-AT Afternoon

It's amazing to me that, thirty years after Kenner sold the original AT-AT Imperial Walker as part of its collection of The Empire Strikes Back toy line, people still remember craving to be given one by their parents. Count me among that collection middle-aged men (and women, too) that wanted an AT-AT but couldn't swing it as a Christmas or birthday gift. Little did our guardians know that an invisible scar was being left on our very souls.

Jaws at 35

35 years ago today a movie opened that changed the motion picture business. Plagued by numerous difficulties during its production including going over its shooting timeline by 100 days, a ballooning budget and a mechanical shark that broke down more often than being operational, Jaws went on to become the highest-grossing movie of 1975 and eventually all-time (a record that was surpassed two years later by Star Wars.)
