Cage and Reynolds are CG cavemen in The Croods

DreamWorks Animation has announced a new CG project set to star Nicolas Cage and Ryan Reynolds...as cavemen. The Croods sees Cage play an older cavedude named Crug who doesn't appreciate the forward thinking that a younger caveguy is sharing with the tribe (Reynolds' character) -- or the romantic attraction he's developing for Crug's daughter.

The picture has some interesting talent working on it behind the computer screen. For starters, the idea was originally hatched by Aardman Animation and developed by Kirk DeMicco (director of Space Chimps) and legendary Monty Python actor John Cleese. DeMicco will also direct The Croods as well as co-write the screenplay with Chris Sanders, the co-writer and director of Lilo and Stitch.

DreamWorks Animation has slotted The Croods for release on March 30, 2012, and will release the movie in stereoscopic 3D.
