Even with a new leading man, The Bourne Legacy took off and captured the #1 spot at the box office this weekend. Jeremy Renner benefitted from having his mug in The Avengers, and it worked as audiences were attracted to see what he could do stepping into Matt Damon's shoes. The Bourne Legacy opened to the tune of $40.2 million dollars.
Will Ferrell and Zach Galifinakis also drew the curious to their new comedy The Campaign, which opened in second spot with $27.4m.
After being in top spot for three weekends, The Dark Knight Rises fell to #3 ($19.5m new, $390.1m total).
Meryl Streep's new comedy Hope Springs debuted in #4 with an opening of $15.6m.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is down two spots to #5 with $8.2m in new ticket sales. After two weeks the three-quel has earned $30.5m at the box office.
The new Total Recall dropped nearly 70% in ticket sales in its second weekend. At position #6, the Colin Farrell starrer made $8.1m for its owners. Total Recall's two week total now stands at $44.1m.
Ice Age: Continental Drift is now at position #7 with $6.7m in new grosses. The picture's five week domestic gross now stands at $144m, which is $32m less than the third-highest grossing movie in the Ice Age film franchise. In other words, the interest may be melting in this kid-friendly prehistoric toon.
Ted is in position #8 with $3.3m more dollars added to its $209.9m haul.
Step Up Revolution is in #9 with $2.8m new, $30.1m total.
And we've got a tie for the tenth spot. With a weekend gross of $2.2m each, both The Watch and The Amazing Spider-Man both hold position #10. The Watch has only grossed a mediocre $31.3 million dollars in three weeksn while Amazing Spider-Man has earned $255.5m.
