When Edward James Olmos recently talked about his upcoming Battlestar Galactica two-hour special movie The Plan he set the expectation bar pretty high. The man who played Admiral William Adama and who also directed the special spoke highly of the events we'll see in the show, saying that the events that will unfold will leave the audience "gasping."
"You see the complete opposite of the first 281 days of what we went through, ... seen through the eyes of the Cylons, and it is breathtaking," Olmost told the assembled crowd at the Los Angeles Times showbiz industry series called The Envelope (and as was reported online by Sci Fi Wire.) "It's fantastic. It's not fun, but I will say that you will sit there [gasping]."
The Plan tells the beginnings of the Battlestar Galactica story but shows how the destruction of the Twelve Colonies unfolded from the perspective of the enemies of the humans, the robotic Cylons. As those that watched the series well know, the Cylons successfully carried out a devastating attack against the Colonies that nearly wiped out all human life. The opening credits of the TV series always carried the message that the Cylons had a plan, and while the show's conclusion didn't answer every dangling story thread The Plan may close the door on a few of those lingering mysteries as to why the Cylons decided to exterminate mankind.
"I couldn't have imagined this kind of a situation happening at the end of a show, where you would actually start at the beginning," Olmos added. "That's a masterful piece of understanding, Ron [Moore, the series creator]. Genius. Because after you see The Plan, you'll want to go back and view the whole series again."
Olmos also said that when The Plan airs on Sci Fi Channel in November it will run 88 minutes. However, the DVD version will add more than 30 minutes of new material and push the running length to 2 hours, 6 minutes.

way cool! I'm down for that extra 30 minute DVD special... sci/fi has put all three seasons On Demand for $.99 each episode from the very beginning.
i have always been wondering WHO gave Adama and Tigh the memo that there were only 12 Cylon models in the pilot, I mean... only 7 Cylons were created, and they werent talking about the final 5, and somebody had to slip Adama that note, right? so WHO was it?
