Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome greenlighted
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Saturday, October 23, 2010
A second spinoff from Syfy's Battlestar Galactica reboot series has been given the go-ahead. The cable channel has order a two-hour pilot called Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, set during the first Cylon War and approximately 40 years before the start of BSG.
Blood & Chrome differs from the first Galactica spinoff, Caprica, in that its action will be set in space and during wartime. The show opens in the tenth war of the Cylon War and will center on Engisgn William "Husker" Adama as he begins his career as a Viper pilot. Assigned to the newly commissioned Battlestar Galactica, Adama is considered a brash, hot-tempered soldier. Soon after reporting to the Galactica he's assigned on a top secret mission that could tip the balance of the war in the Colonials favor.
David Eick, the executive producer of Battlestar Galactica, who is coming back to exec produce the B&C pilot. "While maintaining the themes of politics, social propaganda, and the timeless question: what does it mean to be human? - Blood & Chrome will also return us to the authentic, relentless depiction of combat and the agony and ecstasy of human-Cylon war, which was the hallmark of Battlestar Galactica's early seasons," said Eick.
The script is by Michael Taylor, another veteran of BSG. The story was conceived by Eick, Taylor and BSG staff writers Bradley Thompson and David Weddle.
"The Galactica universe as re-imagined by Ron Moore and David Eick is rich with possibilities and backstory," said Mark Stern, Syfy's executive vice president of original programming. "We jumped at the chance to revisit the William Adama character and explore this exciting chapter in the BSG narrative which falls between the events of the original series and the prequel, Caprica, currently airing on Syfy."
Casting decisions weren't revealed in the press announcement, nor were shooting or airing dates.
This past March was when Stern first hinted that another BSG show could make it to the airwaves.
I dont know if I like the idea of a second show during a different time period would work with me running at the same time. If it was something after Caprica ended then maybe so. I like them either way
Jakester, Ya the current avatar Zoe seems to be pre- I think its the back up version that they are looking for right now.
The old Cylon's looked like they were chromed. The one this picture doesn't look like it. Why would you chrome them? Wouldn't going to stainless be better or wouldn't there be a new metal technology that's stronger and easier to maintain?
Sorry, I can't help but think the name is really lame and that makes me worry about the series quality.

I'm keen to see more stories in the BSG universe. This could be good. I'd like to see more of Caprica, though, and have it naturally move into the 1st Cylon war.
Speaking of Caprica, is anyone else watching? I've got some questions about that. Mostly about Zoe's avatar. It seems as this is a precursor to resurrection technology (as Clarice Willow wants), but we know that the Cylons needed the final 5 to bring them Resurrection. I think it's safe to assume that the Cylons got the nition of the One True God from the STO, though.
