Warner Bros. has announced who will play the star reporter for The Daily Planet and the love interest for the last Kryptonian, and it's Amy Adams. The 36-year-old, Oscar-nominated actress will play the part of Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's Superman movie. For her 70 years of existence, Lois Lane has been portrayed as a perseverant, unstoppable journalist who becomes the center of Clark Kent's world while Superman becomes the center of hers.
Adams only learned that she landed the job this morning from a phone call from Snyder. "Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," said the Superman director. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."
Adams was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her performance in The Fighter. She's also earned marks of distinction for playing a Disney princess (Enchanted), a young southern belle that falls under the charms of a conniving Leonardo DiCaprio (Catch Me If You Can), as a woman trying to make culinary greatness (Julie & Julia) and for 2005 performance in the drama Junebug. She joins the previously announced Henry Cavill who is playing Clark Kent/Superman, Kevin Costner (as Clark's adopted father, Jonathan Kent) and Diane Lane (as Martha Kent).
Superman: Man of Steel (which may be the movie's full name but it's not official yet) will shoot in Vancouver and Illinois this summer for a Decenber 2012 release.

Is that a cross between Lois and Lana? Snydeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrr!!! *shakes fist*
Right, Lana Lang. Fuck, did all these characters have the same fucking name???!??!?!
Marvel did the same-letter initials even more often than DC did. Peter Parker, Sue Storm, Reed Richards, Warren Worthington III, Scott "Slim" Summers, Bruce Banner, Matt Murdock, Stephen Strange, Robert "Rebel" Ralston, "Dum Dum" Dugan, Jonathon "Junior" Juniper, Silver Surfer, Green Goblin, Fantastic Four, etc.
Li'l Logan
I don't know about DC's reasons for doing it, but Stan Lee is very open about the fact that he did it because it was easier for him to keep track of the names. Gotta love the sheer simplicity there.

So this move will be all about Jonathan Kent now...or is Costner going to take a bite-sized role and leave the rest of the movie alone?
