Amazing Spider-Man on track for $125 million opening weekend

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, July 5, 2012

Box office ticket sales for Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man have been good. The studio released the final official tally for the movie's Tuesday, July 3 opening, and it turned out to be $35.8 million dollars.

By comparison, yesterday (Wednesday) the film is estimated to have grossed $23.4m. The Amazing Spider-Man's two day domestic total stands now at $59.2 million dollars.

Sony Pictures is looking ahead to the weekend. Their analysts believe that ASM will be the new #1 movie at the box office, netting somewhere between $57 to $65 million. That would give The Amazing Spider-Man a six-day box office cume of somewhere between $120million  to $130 million dollars.

Sony has already started working on the sequel's screenplay and targeted the release date for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 for May 2, 2014. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are locked in for at least two sequels, though no details about which supervillain will turn up in movie #2 has been revealed.
