Because we clearly need to see that aaaaaaaaaall over again after barely a decade! Fucking Hollywood.
Columbia Pictures has formally announced the title of its new Spider-Man movie, The Amazing Spider-Man, and its release date: July 3, 2012.
The title is derived from the first Spidey book published by Marvel Comics book which came out in 1963. By the time the new movie hits theaters, the wall-crawling superhero will be one year shy of his golden anniversary.
That's Andrew Garfield in the suit, and if you look at his wrists you'll see the mechanical web shooters that Spider-Man had in the comic book. The Marc Webb-directed movie returns the way Spidey swings around Manhattan back to his comic book roots. In Sam Raimi's trilogy of movies, the character had organic spinnerettes like a real spider, enabling him to create his own spider webbing. No doubt the new Spider-Man movie will have a scene showing Peter Parker creating the mechanical web shooters.
The Amazing Spider-Man also stars Emma Stone (as Gwen Stacy), Rhys Ifans (as Doctor Curt Connors), Denis Leary (as police Captain Stacy), Irrfan Khan (as the film's villain, the Proto-Goblin), Sally Field (as Aunt May), Martin Sheen (as Uncle Ben) and Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson as Peter's parents.
