Michael Clarke Duncan dead at age 54
Actor Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away at the age of 54, from complications suffered from a heart attack he had in July.
Known for his big build and deep voice, Duncan was in the prime of his life. His first movie role was in 1995's Friday, and he had several small parts playing bouncers and muscle men. It wasn't until 1997's Armageddon that he had a meatier role with more lines, playing one of the rough-and-tumble drilling crew drafted into blowing up an approaching asteroid.

Al Pacino wants to be King
The actor that has delivered to us such unforgettable lines as "Say hello to my little friend," or "Cause she's got a great ass...and you got your head all the way up in it!" is going to be playing the Bard's biggest royal role. That's right my friends, none other than Al Pacino himself will be playing William Shakespeare's King Lear in a movie based on the classic play.

Reported in the pages of Variety this morning is the story that Sony Pictures has a new deal with Platinum Studios, a comic book publisher that has a thousand different properties but not much in the way of actual books in comic books stores. Sony is developing an as-yet unnamed animated feature based on a Platinum property. So what's the property?

Star Trek's new Kirk deemed Hollywood's future star
The new captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise is meeting with the approval of theater owners nationwide. Chris Pine has been selected as the Male Star of Tomorrow by the members of ShoWest, the annual gathering for the National Association of Theater Owners. Pine will accept his award on April 2.
Bourne again on game consoles
Expect to play more video games based on the creations of Robert Ludlum, writer of The Bourne Identity. Electronic Arts has struck a deal with Ludlum Entertainment that allows the software developer/distributor to make games based on Ludlum properties.

Carpenter goes to The Ward next
John Carpenter's next will be part psychological thriller, part ghost story. The original Halloween helmer has signed on to direct The Ward, scheduled to start filming come May. Amber Heard (Alpha Dog) toplines the movie as a beautiful young woman who, while incarcerated in a mental institution, is haunted by a ghost.

Slumdog star joins Shyamalan's Airbender
The actor who rose to worldwide fame as Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire has landed his next acting job in M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender. Dev Patel will play one of the Airbender's allies, a member of the Fire Tribe named Zuko.
