After 20 seasons of suspects Law & Order is cancelled
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Sunday, May 16, 2010
"In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime, and the district attorneys, who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories."
DUN-DUN!
If you've watched any television in the past 20 years then you will know from what show those opening lines are heard from. Since its debut in 1990, NBC's Law & Order has been a mainstay of the network's 10-o-clock line-up. Created by Dick Wolf, the show's format harkened back to some of the earlier police procedurals from television history. Each episode was broken up into two segments, the top half showing the police investigation into the crime and the bottom half of the episode featuring the trial of the accused.
Five spinoffs have arisen from Law & Order including Special Victims Unit (now in its 11th season), Criminal Intent (9 seasons), Trial By Jury (which only lasted 13 episodes), Law & Order: UK (in its second season) and the newly announced Law & Order: Los Angeles which will premiere this fall on NBC. Stars have come
20 seasons worth of Law & Order is also worthy of distinction in another way as the show is also entering the record books tied as the longest-running drama on television with the classic western show Gunsmoke. The final tally of episodes? 453.
