ABC has committed to broadcasting a 13-episode run of Defying Gravity, described as Gray's Anatomy in space. The show chronicles the adventure of eight astronauts who have embarked on a mission of exploration across the solar system that will take them six years. It will air on the network this summer during the slow time in ABC's schedule.
The series is a co-production between several different countries including Canada, Germany and England, so airing it on their network is attractive to ABC. The show stars Ron Livingston (Band of Brothers, Office Space), Laura Harris, Christina Cox, Malik Yoba and Florentine Lahme and is being produced by one of the executive producers of Gray's Anatomy, James Parriott. The series is actually an American remake of a BBC two-hour special that blended science fact within the context of an imaginary space mission called Space Odyssey: Voyage to the Planets. If Defying Gravity can find an audience over the summer break then there's an excellent chance you'll see the story continue; Parriott tells The Hollywood Reporter that,
"I have the first three seasons blocked out, and I know the ending of the series."
