DreamWorks is in discussions to buy the movie rights to Xombie, an online animated series. Star Trek screenwriters/producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci would produce the film for the studio.
Created by James Farr, the Xombie online series has attracted a large following checking in regularly. The story takes place in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and centers on one of the undead, a zombie named Dirge who remembers his life from before as a policeman. Dirge's memories stir emotion in his ceased-to-beat heart and he tries to protect a lone child separated from her mother from the zombie hordes. Screenwriter Will Beall would adapt the net series (which itself has been adapted into a comic book published by Devil's Due Publishing.)
