Spec'd: Watchmen

After grossing $107 million dollars at North American box offices Warner Home Video is bringing the film adaptation of Watchmen home to video on July 21, 2009. Two versions of the film will be available including a director's cut that adds an additional 25 minutes of material into the screen story.

$25 million opening day for Watchmen

It turns out that a lot of people wanted to watch Watchmen. On its opening day the movie grossed an estimated $25,135,000 on 3,611 screens. By comparison, the second-highest movie was Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail which earned a paltry $2.5 m.

Saturday morning Watchmen

On the eve of the release of the Watchmen movie there arrives this wonderful fan-created gem on to the internets. Created by Newgrounds member Harry Partridge (a.k.a. HappyHarry), this intro for what a very unlikely Saturday morning Watchmen cartoon show captures all of the family friendly, pandering sentiment that's found on network cartoons with plenty of inside jokes that fans of the Watchmen graphic novel will easily spot.

Review: Watchmen

How do you film the unfilmable comic book? That’s been a question on the minds of fans of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen, the comic book/graphic novel/whatever you want to call it, for two decades. Scores of filmmakers have attempted to scale that beast of a mountain and have failed to reach the peak until director Zack Snyder came along. Buoyed on the success of turning Frank Miller’s 300 into a hit film, Snyder asked for and received the movie project that is to comic books what William Shakespeare is to English literature. Every sneak peek at the film, from early looks at the costumes to that first trailer that came with The Dark Knight, have indicated that Snyder was making a Watchmen movie that was going to capture the source material faithfully. And he has but it comes with a cost.

Watchmen: The End is Nigh and downloading now

WB Games' Watchmen: The End is Nigh was released today and is now available for download on Microsoft's Xbox Live and Sony's PSN networks as well as for the PC. Developed by Deadline Games, the third-person action title lets you play as either Rorschach or Nite-Owl II during the height of their partnership in the 1970s, before superheroes were outlawed in the Watchmen universe.

Watchmen settlement reached

Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox have reached a settlement regarding the copyright infringement case concerning Watchmen. Lawyers for both sides will meet with Judge Gary Feess tomorrow morning to go over the details but already some information about what Fox will get from WB have leaked.

Watchmen sides now working together to end lawsuit

Lawyers for 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. are now working out their differences and trying to find a way to end the pending court case that could block the release of the highly anticipated movie Watchmen. U.S. District Court Judge Gary A. Feess was supposed to get underway with a hearing that would have him make a ruling whether or not Watchmen could come out on March 6, 2009 or if it would be postponed in order to determine how large Fox's ownership of the trademark property could be.

Judge rules Fox has legal claim to Watchmen

In a surprising Christmas Eve announcement the judge overseeing 20th Century Fox's claim that it still owns the right to make and release a Watchmen movie has ruled the studio does indeed have a legal share of the property. In a brief five-page statement Judge Gary Feess said that he had reversed his initial thought that Fox did not have enough evidence to their claim that they owned a stake of the Watchmen movie property. "Fox owns a copyright interest consisting of, at the very least, the right to distribute the Watchmen motion picture," Feess' decision read in part on Wednesday.
