Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th) and Mamie Gummer (Stop-Loss) have been cast in The Ward. Both actresses will play patients housed at the institution where Amber Heard's character has just arrived. Panabaker's character is described as being snobbish to other patients, flirts with the orderlies and is receiving electroshock therapy. Filming kicks off next month in Spokane, WA.

One of the masters of horror has a new job. John Carpenter, director of such classic horror films as the original Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York and They Live, calls action this May on the set of The Ward.

Carpenter's latest is set in a mental institution and centers on a young woman that is menaced by a ghost. Amber Heard, last seen in The Pineapple Express, will play the lady in danger. "The Ward is the kind of script that I've been looking for: a complex, visceral story, full of suspense and scares," Carpenter was quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter.

The screenplay was written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen. Echo Lake Entertainment and A Bigger Boat are producing the thriller. [Full story]
