CNN's entertainment column The Frisky reports that Angelina Jolie has officially signed on to play Kay Scarpetta in the Fox 2000 movie. No details surfaced about whether a script exists yet but the outlet did get a quote from Patricia Cornwall about what she thought of the actress playing the heroine she created.

"When Angelina came out of the left field last year, I was floored," she told the site. "Angelina had pithy things to say about what she wanted to do. She was direct and goal-oriented."

Angelina Jolie is attached to play Patricia Cornwall's medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in a movie based on the popular book series. Producing are Mark Gordon (10,000 B.C.) and Jolie's manager, Geyer Kosinski, for Fox 2000. A screenwriter hasn't been hired yet and no one is certain what book(s) the movie's story will follow.
