David O. Russell has departed the Uncharted movie due to the much dreaded culpit of "creative differences". THR reports that one of the reasons why Russell exited was that he presented a 200-page draft of the movie to Columbia Pictures. It wasn't just that move that alienated Russell from his bosses: the script also contained numerous new characters that were never seen in either of the two Uncharted video games.

In an interview with MTV, Mark Wahlberg confirms the rumor that he's been cast in the main role for the Uncharted: Drake's Fortune movie and that he's happy to be reuniting with his Three Kings director. "David is one of the best writer/directors I've ever worked with," said the actor. "The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we'll be making that movie this summer."

Wahlberg also confirmed that there has been talks with both Robert De Nero and Joe Pesci to play his character's father and uncle, respectively, and that the movie that Russell wants to make won't be timid and tame. "It's not going to be the watered-down version, that's for sure."

It looks like the L.A. Times got their story wrong because Columbia Pictures has snagged David O. Russell to write and direct Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.

Russell's written and directed an eclectic assortment of dramas including I Heart Huckabees, Flirting With Disaster, Spanking the Monkey and Three Kings. His next film is The Fighter starring Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale.

"David is a tremendous choice to take on this film," commented Matt Tolberg, the studio's president of production. "He's equally adept at combining all the classic elements involved in this property: great character development, strong comedy, and amazing action sequences. He has a brilliant vision for this material and we know he will bring his original, unique voice to this adaptation."
