USA Today was the first to publish a photo showing the four members of New Moon's wolf pack, the young men that can transform their bodies into wolves. The actors appearing sans shirt in the photo are Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Bronson Pelletier.

The paper also got New Moon director Chris Weitz to say something about how the actors are facing the challenge of appearing half-naked in scenes shot in the cold and damp Vancouver weather. "It's not pleasant for the actors," Weitz explained. "But they have all been good-natured. They show up on location in drenching, cold rain, and I say, 'OK, off with the robes.' "

As part of a press release alerting the media that filming has begun (who knew, right?), Summit Entertainment has finally released a complete list of the cast for New Moon and the characters each of the actors are playing. Here's the announcement in part:

"Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner reprise their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black. Academy Award-nominee Chris Weitz (THE GOLDEN COMPASS, ABOUT A BOY) is the director. NEW MOON is filming on locations in Vancouver, BC and Tuscany, Italy.

"Also rejoining the movie are Ashley Greene as Alice, Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Kellan Lutz as Emmett, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Edi Gathegi as Laurent, Rachelle Lafevre as Victoria and Billy Burke as Charlie Swan.

"New cast members include the legendary Volturi, a venerable coven of vampires who weigh and impose the laws of the vampire world, as well as two new members of the Quileute Indian Nation. The Volturi include Charlie Bewley as Demetri, Jamie Campbell Bower as Caius, Daniel Cudmore as Felix, Christopher Heyerdahl as Marcus, all Volturi enforcers. Dakota Fanning plays Jane, a high ranking and powerful Volturi member and Cameron Bright is Alec, her brother. Noot Seer plays Volturi member Heidi. Michael Sheen plays Aro, the Volturi leader. Graham Greene appears as Harry Clearwater, Quileute tribal leader and old friend of Bella's father Charlie. Tinsel Korey is Emily, the fiancé of Sam Uley.

"In NEW MOON, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love Edward (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and she finds her loyalties tested."

Michael Sheen has joined the cast of New Moon as Aro, the leader of the Volturi vampire clan. Sheen is known for his performances as Tony Blair in The Queen, David Frost in Frost/Nixon and Lucian in the Underworld film series.

"Michael's role is so important because he’s the head of all vampires," director Chris Weitz told The Daily Mail, confirming the casting news. "Aro is, on the surface, a very gracious and friendly vampire, but beneath that he is a tremendous threat."

The Mail is also reporting that Sheen will earn a rumored £5 million for the job.

A group of teens living in Ucluelet got a rare chance to meet their beloved Twilight cast member when a rumor about New Moon shooting scenes nearby paid off. The school friends had heard that the New Moon production had been shooting scenes inside Pacfic Rim National Forest under thr guise of pretending to be a commercial. Heading down toward the beachfront location, the teens spotted Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner coming from up the beach and wrapped in blankets. "They looked like they were filming the scene where Bella [Stewart] almost drowns because they were wet and wrapped in towels," 17-year-old Laura Timmermans told The Vancouver Sun.

After hanging around for a day their patience was rewarded when Stewart and Lautner emerged from their trailers and came out to talk with the teens and sign autographs. Lautner also posed for photos and you can see the one he took with Timmermans on the Sun site.

E! Online is reporting that Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds, The Cat in the Hat) has been offered the role of Jane, a member of the Italian component of the Volturi vampire clan. "There were no auditions," E!'s source dishes to the site. "They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth."

According to the Twilight Saga wiki, Jane is one of the top vampires in her clan and an enemy of the Cullens. She has the ability to make other feel tremendous pain via mental telepathy (except for Bella who is immune to the mind powers of the vampires.)
