Instead of the project winding up at Walt Disney, del Toro's Trollhunters has now landed at DreamWorks Animation. He'll also direct and write the screenplay for the film and have the script finished before moving on to direct At the Mountains of Madness.

"I wanted very much to develop a story that could be written for kids but dealt with a genre that was scary," the filmmakers told The Hollywood Reporter. "It essentially combines fairy tales with modern times and is about how difficult it is to be kid. Normally, kids are idealized in animated films. But the growing pains, married with the notion that there is a world right next to us that is completely plagued by creatures of ancient lore, it's thematically fitting with the rest of my stuff."

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and Walt Disney Pictures have announced a new imprint of the company that will make new animated thrillers to be produced by del Toro. Called Disney Double Dare You, the imprint's first project will be a film called Trollhunters which is based on a concept by del toro.

"As a director, I love to take audiences into fantastic new worlds and provide them with some anxious moments in the process. It is part of the Disney canon to create thrilling, unforgettable moments and villains in all their classic films," said del Toro about his new endeavor. "It is my privilege for DDY to continue in this tradition. To partner up with The Walt Disney Studios, with the support of Dick Cook and John Lasseter, is to belong to a storytelling partnership that I admire deeply. It is a true honor. I look forward to coming up with fresh and original stories that will take Disney films in a whole new direction. The emphasis is on fun, and we have some great ideas already on the storyboards."

"Guillermo is a brilliant and visionary filmmaker, and we're excited to be launching this new label with him," commented Dick Cook, the chairman of the studio. "His knowledge and appreciation for Disney films, along with his penchant for creating worlds of fantasy, presented a great opportunity for us to explore a whole new genre of filmmaking for moviegoers of all ages. We have admired Guillermo's imaginative approach to filmmaking for some time, and now we're proud to be working with him to create films full of imaginative delights and lots of thrills at the same time."
