Director Breck Eisner, who helmed the Matthew McConaughey adventure film Sahara as well as the remake of The Crazies, is now in talks to make the Stretch Armstrong film.

Screenwriter Dean Georgaris to write a new draft for the proposed Stretch Armstrong movie. The studio is hoping to have the movie out in theaters on April 11, 2014.

Georgaris wrote the script for Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, Paycheck and the remakes of The Manchurian Candidate and The Crazies.

Monsters vs. Aliens director Rob Letterman has just been hired to do the Stretch Armstrong movie. Also getting a paycheck from Universal is screenwriter Nick Stoller who will be performing a rewrite on the script.

Twilight star Taylor Lautner has been cast by Universal to play Stretch Armstrong. "In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office. He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power," said Universal's co-chairman Donna Langley. "We couldn't be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch."

The studio has also said that it will release the movie in 3D and sometime in 2012.

This photo (taken by one of the Latino Review hombres) of a promotional banner for the Stretch Armstrong movie is hanging above the floor at Comic-Con 2009, just in case you wanted to get an idea where the marketing team is at in their thinking of a logo for the flick.

A story in Business Wire (and discovered by IESB) directly states that the Stretch Armstrong movie will be directed by Ron Howard. If that is indeed true this is the first mention of it publically.

Universal has greenlit a live action film based on Hasbro's action figure Stretch Armstrong. The film has a release date -- April 15, 2011 -- and a powerhouse producer helping it get to the finish line in the form of Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind).

"Stretch Armstrong is a character I have wanted to see onscreen for a long time," Grazer is quoted as saying by Variety. "He's an unconventional kind of superhero with a power that no one would want." [Full story]
