Ben Affleck top choice for directing The Stand

In completely unexpected news, word breaks that actor-turned-decent director Ben Affleck has been "chosen" to direct the big screen version of Stephen King's The Stand. Now I'll allow you a moment to pick your jaw up from the desk.

Harry Potter team to adapt Stephen King's The Stand

After directing the final four films in Warner Bros. Harry Potter film series, director David Yates is in a very fortunate place to call the shot for the next phase of his career. So too is screenwriter Steve Kloves who's worked on seven of the Harry Potter films (three of which were done by Yates.) The shorthand is there for any development executive at the movie studio to see: why not continue the Yates/Kloves union and get these two to tackle another literary franchise that has the potential to become a new movie franchise?

Stephen King's The Stand on the road to becoming a movie

Movie rights to The Stand, Stephen King's legendary novel of life after the apocalypse, have sold to CBS Films and Warner Bros. With two studios involved in shaping the project (as well as The Ring producer Roy Lee and Mosaic Film), King fans can now hope for a budget that will do justice with The Stand's story: showing the end of the world and the final showdown between good and evil for the soul of the planet.
