Sources inform the Vulture website that Universal has placed the Ouija film project into turnaround. In less words, they let it go.

Reportedly, director McG and producer Michael Bay are meeting with representatives from other movie studios to see if there's interest out there in making the expensive tentpole production. Also reportedly, Paramount (the studio where Bay's Transformers movies were produced and released) passed on the opp to make the Ouija movie.

Vulture also goes on to say that Universal has to pay Hasbro $5 million dollars for letting go of the movie.

Screenwriter Simon Kinberg has jumped on Ouija to perform a polish before the movie heads into production. Kinberg is a producer on this summer's X-Men: First Class and wrote the screenplays for Mr. & Mrs. Smith, X-Men: The Last Stand, Sherlock Holmes and the now filming Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

McG is now in discussions with the studio to direct the movie. His last film was 2009's Terminator Salvation. Previous to that he directed the two Charlie's Angels pictures, We Are Marshall and the presently filming romantic comedy This Means War. [Full story]
