Warner Bros. is hoping that it can entice the star of its 2004 film Troy for another film adaptation based on a tale told by Homer. The studio is developing a version of The Odyssey that would take the story and remove it from its ancient Greek and Mediterranean setting and set it in the harshness of outer space. WB wants Brad Pitt to star in the film and George Miller (Happy Feet, The Road Warrior) to direct.

The Odyssey is set ten years after the fall of Troy. Odysseus, the man who devised the Trojan Horse that caused the downfall of Troy, has been missing for ten years. His wife, Penelope, has almost given up hope that her husband will return to her. Odysseus' son, Telemachus, is now 20 years old and has no memory of his father since Odysseus set out for the Trojan War when he was just born. But Odysseus is alive and after escaping from a captor's prison, he begins making his way back to his homeland. The Greek gods both help and hinder Odysseus as his journey progresses until he is reunited with Penelope.

If Pitt signs a deal to board the Warners project he will also have a hand in producing it via his Plan B company. No screenwriter has been announced as of yet.
