Disney has pulled newt from its future schedule indefinately. Although there had been speculation that Pixar had shelved the Gary Rydstrom romantic comedy, this is the confirmation that the project has been scrapped (at least, for the foreseeable future.) "Who knows if and when we get the right pieces together," said Chuck Viane to Variety, on behalf of the movie studio.

The Walt Disney Company and Pixar Animation Studios announced today its schedule for animated films for the next four years. Among the projects mentioned was Pixar's 14th film, newt. To be directed by Gary Rydstrom (director of the Pixar short film Lifted) and presented in Disney Digital 3D, newt's storyline was described by the companies as this:
"What happens when the last remaining male and female blue-footed newts on the planet are forced together by science to save the species, and they can't stand each other? That's the problem facing Newt and Brooke, heroes of newt, the Pixar film by seven-time Academy Award(R) winner for sound Gary Rydstrom, and director of Pixar's Oscar-nominated short, Lifted. Newt and Brooke embark on a perilous, unpredictable adventure and discover that finding a mate never goes as planned, even when you only have one choice. Love, it turns out, is not a science."
