According to Variety's column about video game culture, the movie rights to Bioware's Mass Effect have been purchased by former Marvel Studios prez Avi Arad. While both Arad and Mass Effect publisher Electronic Arts chose not to comment on V's article, the writer claims to have verified the rumor through multiple sources. It was not mentioned if Arad's Mass Effect movie was set up at a particular studio or if a writer or any other talent had been attached to it.
Released in November 2007, Mass Effect is a science fiction/action RPG set two centuries in the future when mankind discovers alien technology that allows us to explore space and meet other extraterrestrial races. Eventually it is discovered that the technology that enables humans and other races to cross the galaxy has dire consequences for all intelligent life. The game received strong reviews and sufficient sales that a sequel is in development as well as plans to eventually make a trilogy of games.
Arad is also developing a film from another video game property, Capcom's Lost Planet.- Cut Scene. Comment on this Scoop (0)
