Pirates of the Caribbean screenwriters Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott are in final negotiations to write the script for The Lone Ranger for Walt Disney Pictures and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
The Lone Ranger property began as a radio serial in 1933 and then transformed into a series of black-and-white short theatrical films. Perhaps the most well remembered incarnation of the character was when a long-running television series was made of the Lone Ranger in the 1940s and 50s. The last theatrical film featuring the hero was The Legend of the Lone Ranger which bombed when it was released in 1981.
Disney has not set a release date for their new Lone Ranger movie nor have any actors been cast in the production yet.
