Wanting to see if he could become a real-life superhero, loner New York City high school student Dave Lizewski makes a homemade costume to protect his identity and begins to get his body into shape. However, on his first attempt to try and stop a crime Lizewski is nearly beaten to death. Months later when Dave stops a fight while in costume someone films him in action, uploads it to the internet and it becomes viral hit with the masked vigilante dubbed "Kick-Ass". But little does Dave know that his overnight fame as Kick-Ass will spawn others to dress up and begin to play superhero and supervillain.
