JFXOnline has scored a set video from the first day of filming! Now you can rest reassured that Tony Stark won't have some radical change of wardrobe in the sequel.
In addition to the video SpoilerTV has photos showing Downey smoking a stogie, Paltrow arriving in a car and Don Cheadle in his military duds as Rhodey. There's even a photo of Robert carrying around some kind of Iron Man branded lunch kit or cigar box, we're not sure. All we know is that we want one too.

Today is the first day of filming on Iron Man 2, and naturally director Jon Favreau is keeping his fans updated as to what's going on via his Twitter account. Favs has already dumped two pics on Twitpic, one showing a sign asking visitors to the set to not have cameras with them unless authorized by a representative from Marvel Studios, and the second is of Favreau's chair from which he calls the shots.

Entertainment Tonight has a video interview with Robert Downey Jr. on their site where the actor talks about his thoughts on filling Tony Stark's business suit and power armor for a second go-around.
"The [sequel] film is almost entirely about character, and yet we still have twice as much action as we did last time, so it's going to be nuts," Downey told the outlet. "Essentially Iron Man 2 is about looking behind the armor, or the armature, of a superhero. It's one thing to say you're Iron Man, it's another thing to be fully ready to do that."
On how his physical look that he made for the recently filmed Sherlock Holmes is affecting the way he looks in Iron Man 2: "I'm on Beefcake Charlie status...I've got to not be the skinny Brit anymore. I have to be the Tony that you know and may have loved."
On Scarlett Johansson's rumored diet: "We've been rehearsing and she's in insane shape. She's getting lean and mean."
Iron Man 2's first day of filming is scheduled for next Monday.- Entertainment Tonight. Comment on this Scoop (0)

Now we have a rough idea when filming will start on Iron Man 2 thanks to one of its stars. In her latest newsletter published today to readers of her website, Gwyneth Paltrow talks about how she met Jon Favreau while making Dorothy Parker and the Vicious Circle 15 years ago. "He then went on to write and star in Swingers and become an incredible filmmaker," writes the actress. "We reconnected when he asked me to be in Iron Man. Jon is not only a confident filmmaker, he is deeply calm and funny. I can't wait to start Iron Man 2 in two weeks and hang out with him every day." So two weeks it is.- Goop.com. Variety's story confirms Deadline Hollywood Daily's exclusive that Mickey Rourke is in Iron Man 2 but they add a small bit of their own to the dogpile. Rourke is playing Whiplash who Variety describes is a fusion of two villains from the comic book, Crimson Dynamo and the original Whiplash.
The mag also reveals an interesting anecdote: during a roundtable interview that Newsweek conducted with several actors nominated for Oscars, Robert Downey Jr. "reached across the table and flat out asked Rourke to do Iron Man 2."- Variety. Comment on this Scoop (2)

Now Deadline Hollywood is breaking that the deal for Scarlett Johannson has been closed and she will play the Black Widow in the film. However, the site's inside source also adds that the paycheck for Johannson is "as bad as any deal that I've heard. It's low ball money. And it ties her to countless movies, including that ensemble The Avengers, which is what makes this brutal for a lot of actors."

It's being reported by The Playlist (who claim that they saw it first on E!'s rec carpet coverage of the Oscars) that Emily Blunt is now out of the running to play the Black Widow. The story goes that one of that site's readers was watching when Jon Favreau appeared with a E! microphone in front of him. The question got asked and Favs allegedly said that Blunt was no longer a possibility for the Widow because 20th Century Fox had exercised their option that she signed when she worked for the studio on The Devil Wears Prada, meaning in short that Fox was calling in their chit and wanted Blunt to star opposite Jack Black on Gulliver's Travels. That film is scheduled to roll this spring/summer and would definitely conflict with the Iron Man 2 shoot. Favreau went on to (allegedly) say that he was "disappointed," and that Mickey Rourke wasn't cast but that he was a "fan".- The Playlist via E!. Comment on this Scoop (0)

- a male, unnamed character in their 40s to 50s, described as Caucasian, handsom, intelligent and dynamic.
- Mongolian gangsters. Various parts, various ages.

The production wants to have these roles filled by April 2009, which gives you some kind of idea that filming will begin shortly after that time. Mongolian gangsters? While attending this year's Domenico Vacca fashion show in NYC, New York magazine's Vulture columnist asked Mickey Rourke what the current sit-rep was for him with Iron Man 2. "Right now, we're not doing Iron Man 2," the actor said.
To our ears it sounded like Rourke was saying that there's no deal in place yet, not that there won't ever be a deal.- New York magazine via IESB. Comment on this Scoop (0)

According to this itty-bitty publication called Entertainment Weekly, Scarlett Johansson is now in talks to play Black Widow. While the Mrs. Ryan Reynolds is under consideration to play the redhaired Russian femme fatale Marvel is also approaching other actresses about the part. All this comes about because Emily Blunt, who was circled to play the Widow, has a scheduling conflict with her job for Gulliver's Travels. That film is slated to begin filming on April 15 and while Marvel/Paramount both don't have a locked down date for the start of Iron Man 2's shoot, it's believed that it would fall sometime around the later part of spring or start of summer -- and right when Blunt is still needed to work on Gulliver's Travels.- Entertainment Weekly.
