Summit Entertainment has picked up the rights to Highlander and is developing a remake. Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will write the remake's screenplay which will follow along the same path as the 1986 movie, namely, that a group of Immortals are battling each other with swords to win a fabled prize. The main character will remain a Scottish highlander who discovers he is a member of the Immortals in medieval times.
"I have always dreamed of reinventing this franchise," said Patrick Wachsberger, the studio's co-chairman and president to Variety.
Added Summit's Eric Feig, ""We think the franchise will work on a global basis."
