Columbia Pictures has finally let loose the first trailer for The Green Hornet. We've been looking forward to seeing how Michel Gondry turns Seth Rogen into a movie superhero and now that it's here, it doesn't look too bad. Can a new Hornet find the room to be cool among the Iron Mans and Batmans?

The release date for The Green Hornet has been pushed back once again. This time the studio has bumped back the release three weeks, from just before Christmas to now January 14, 2011. The move to release Hornet after the lucrative Christmas box office season might be seen as a sign of shaky confidence by Sony in the picture.

Deadline Hollywood Daily is breaking that actor Christoph Waltz, who played the Nazi SS villain Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds, has been cast as The Green Hornet's villain. According to the site the name of Waltz's character is Chudnofsky.

A whole mess of spy photos revealing our first looks at Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Jay Chou in costume appeared at Crazy Critics. Diaz is wearing a sky blue dress, Rogen's dropped his bushy beard in favor of a Michael Keaton-esque Batman look and Chou's Kato stands on guard.

Columbia Pictures announced that filming has begun on The Green Hornet and also added more names to the film's cast such as David Harbour (Revolutionary Road) and Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins). The studio also notes that Nicolas Cage is still in negotiations to star in the film.

Sony Pictures has pushed back the release of its Green Hornet movie from July 7, 2010 to December 17, 2010. When HitFix got in contact with Seth Rogen to hear what was the cause for the delay the actor told the site that it gives the creative team "more time for post, which would have been immensely rushed if we were to come out in the summer." Rogen was also thankful for the rollback as it gives more time to promote the movie.

Here's another reason why you should be on Twitter: Sony Pictures has just announced that Jay Chou is the new Kato. The 30-year-old is a Taiwanese singer, director, producer and actor who is well-known in the far east but not in the west. Chou began acting in 2005 and has moved on to directing episodes of the TV serial Pandamen.

According to Variety, Nicolas Cage is in talks to play the movie's villain, a gangster. Diaz is also still in negotiations but we've learned she would play a reporter and the love interest of the Hornet in the film.

Rumors that Stephen Chow had officially exited The Green Hornet have been confirmed with the announcement of an open casting call for the role of Kato. TMNC published the details of the casting call released by Columbia Pictures:

"[KATO] ALL ASIAN ETHNICITIES, Male, 20's - early 40's. Brit Reid's manservant/chauffeur by day and Green Hornet's martial arts-skilled sidekick by night. Actor doesn't have to have Martial Arts experience. PLEASE NOTE on submission current location of actor and any martial arts experience."
