DreamWorks has nabbed the film rights to Eat, Sleep, Poop: A Common Sense Guide to Your Baby's First Year, a non-fiction book set for publication on March 30 and written by Beverly Hills pediatrician Scott W. Cohen. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are developing the project and have selected Four Christmases scribes Matt Allen and Caleb Wilson to find a fictional narrative for the film.
Cohen wrote his practical survival guide for new parents after he himself became a father. What he found was that the real-life experience was substantially different from what he advised new parents to do with their infants. One of the husbands of Cohen's patents was Chris Fenton, an executive at a comedy production company. Fenton had connections to a literary agent and brought Cohen's book to Scribner, then approached a development executive working for Parkes and MacDonald. That's when DreamWorks stepped in and acquired the movie rights ahead of any other potential suitors.
