The first trailer for Cowboys & Aliens is now out. What do we think of it? That it's pretty effective, as if Unforgiven and Close Encounters of the Third Kind decided to hook up and have a baby. And after watching this trailer, we think that's not such a bad thing.

The teaser poster for Cowboys & Aliens debuted today online. Grab yer shotgun and alien gizmo before heading out on the desert plain, partner.
As part of today's new marketing launch there also was a new synopsis for the movie released:
"1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde. It's a town that lives in fear.
"But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
"Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he¿s been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella, he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents - townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors - all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival."

We think that Jon Favreau just confirmed yesterday's Harrison Ford rumor. "Please stop asking if Harrison Ford is in Cowboys & Aliens. Okay?" said the director via his Twitter account. "He is. Please don't tell anybody." Got it, Jon.

Could Harrison Ford be putting on a cowboy hat and riding the range? There's a bit of smoke to the rumor that Latino Review ran yesterday that suggests such a thing is a possibility: Jon Favreau tweeted that some "very cool" casting news was coming soon and that syncs up with what a LR source told them, that Ford was going to join the cast of a new movie based on a comic book that was going to be directed by someone coming off of a different comic book movie. Does that sound like the guy that did Iron Man 2 going off to do Cowboys & Aliens?

According to a report from the L.A. Times, Robert Downey Jr. has dropped out of playing cowboy Zeke Johnson in the film. Why Downey decided to bail is a cause for speculation, but the paper takes a stab and guesses that it may have something to do with the box office success of Sherlock Holmes, and that studio's desire to see a sequel move into production in the near future.
