Bruce C. McKenna, the co-executive producer of HBO's The Pacific, sold a pitch to Warner Bros. for a 3D retelling of The Battle of Midway. McKenna, who wrote 7 of the 10 episodes of The Pacific, is expected to turn in his first draft of the movie in just eight weeks. Akiva Goldsman is a producer on the film through his Weed Road Productions company.
The fast timetable for the screenplay may indicate that Warner Bros. wants to have a naval themed 3D action movie to compete against Universal's Battleship.
