Just got a PS3!

Posted by Strider on Monday, October 5, 2009

I utilized the new video game trade-in program at Toys R Us to get a ton of store credit that allowed to get a new PS3 for free (you know, other than the fact that I have a much smaller game collection now). I also picked up Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction, and Motorstorm to play on it, and I immediately activated Blu-Ray access on my Netflix account. Also, the sample Blu-Ray that came with my system had a trailer for Up on it. I can't wait to watch that movie again, especially in HD.

Anyway, if any of you guys are on PSN, add me to your friends list please. Right now I've only got one friend on my list, and it's kind of sad (even my paltry 360 friends list has about 30 people on it). My ID is "PolygonWizard".

Man, why can't we edit the first post of a topic? It seems rather silly to me.

If I traded in my sega genesis (and sega CD), do you think I'd be able to get a PS3?

The systems themselves? Probably be better off selling them on ebay rather than taking them to GameStop or something. You'd probably get more dough that way, and the same goes for older games as well. Trade-in values for that stuff are usually pretty crappy, but they usually get a better price on ebay, especially if sold in a lot. However, you never really know what you'll get on ebay, so it's certainly a little risky.

That said, if you have a great game store near you that specifically wants old systems, it might be worth asking them how much they'll give you for them.

you missed the < sarcasm >. ;)
I'm a bit bummed I got rid of a lot of my old systems, so I think I'll be hanging on to the genesis and even the original PS.

Apparently the sarcasm wasn't all that obvious on my end. Perhaps the internet cybertron filtered out all the sarcasm tags by the time it reached my screen.

Or perhaps it's because the work day is almost over and my brain is kind of fried at the moment, causing my sarcasm recognition abilities to be impaired.

quite frankly, I take every Jakester post as filled with either biting sarcasm or overwhelming libido. :)

I've vaguely considered getting a PS3, but I don't Blu-Ray and it doesn't have a major hardware-only title that I am looking to play.

Sorry, Strider. I've almost been serious in a few posts lately. It's bound to throw you off.

I don't want to have two systems hooked up, and even though the PS3 is now emulating via software, I expect that most of what I have will still be supported. That and the Blu-Ray are good reasons for me to upgrade. I want to play Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Mortal Kombat vs. DCU. I'm sure that there are other titles which will capture my attention, but right now, those are the ones I'm interested in.

After having spent quite a bit of time with it recently, I can say that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is a damned fine game, and the sequel out this week promises to be even better. If you like action adventure movies and you have a PS3 (or a friend with a PS3) there is no excuse for not playing it...or at least wanting to play it.

Uncharted 2 coming out now was pretty much the final push for me getting the PS3 now. I haven't played it yet, just the first Uncharted. Uncharted 2 has yet to be freed from its shiny plastic wrapping because I've been playing LittleBigPlanet. That game is also awesome. The whole game is really good, but Stephen Fry's hilarious voiceovers push it over the edge into greatness.
