'Game of Thrones' series Greenlighted

Posted by Jack S. Pharaoh on Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Holy fuck, yes. I know this means nothing to almost everyone here, but I've been waiting for this since the book series was first optioned three years ago. They even released the first production still, a shot apparently from the prologue of the book. So, yes, people, deal with me starting random threads and forcing irrelevant knowledge upon you. This is how Jack does business, aggresively and in a pompous third-person. Pray I never decide to educate the lot of you about pregnancy.

It might as well be. Or the Iron Man thread, Or the Batman thread Pre-teen comic book crap.

*sigh* When Bill contacted me through facebook, we were hoping this place might have some serious discussion that didn't involve Star Wars on every thread.

Guess I'll have to go someplace else

There is no why

Bill should have known better. I miss Bill.

I talk serious stuff. I talk serious stuff at length.

I talk goofy stuff, too. I try to manage a balance.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I'm very serious about wanting to bang Kah. I'm also persistent.

That's because Y is a perfectly good letter. It's actually a very special letter: it can be used as either a vowel or a consonant. Ooooooooooooooh! My man George is just taking the letter back.

None of this is getting Kah to get naked for me. Therefore, it is worthless.

By that logic, pretty much everything in the world is worthless!

The whole genre is all a bit "Balynor Waraxe Grumblyar and his Quest for the Mighty Dong of Righteousness" for me, I fear.

I've been looking for an excuse to bump this thread, and here's a decent one: one of the more psychotically obsessed ASoIaF fans put together this awesome interactive map (it's pretty cool just for the map part), that will play a list of important events and character movements. It looks like right now it might just show the 38 years leading up to the beginning of the books, but I assume the guy will eventually incorporate stuff from the current timeline, too.

Will this series have any hot female nudity? If not, then why should I bother?

I don't know whether you should bother, but it may well have nudity, since there is some sex in the books, and the show will be on HBO (and I think it may have even been mentioned by the author or producers that an actress who is okay with getting naked is required for one of the primary roles). One of the actors mentioned that Lena Headey, from 'Sarah Connor: The Terminator Chronicles' required a body double for nude scenes in the pilot, because she was pregnant and beginning to show a little at that point. Lena's character, Cersei, is a little bit permiscuous, I suppose (at least by medieval type standards; probably by today's standards, too, depending on who you ask). She even does a little girl-on-girl in the fourth book, which causes great debate by fans to this day as to what the hell the author was thinking when he wrote that. There isn't as much sex in the first book as the others, or at least it isn't described as much. One primary character, Daenarys, is only thirteen as the books start, and is basically sold by her brother to be the wife of this barbarian warlord type who digs young girls, and who rides her frequently. The actress originally cast in the role is over 18, of course, but recently it's been rumored that part has been recast. Anyay, the orignal actress got naked some on 'The Tudors', from what I've read. The Daenarys character also had a girl-on-girl encounter in the second or third book, which has also caused some fan dismay, and some female fans have wondered why there have been no male-on-male sexual encounters, particularly since it is implied in the text that two recurring male characters have an ongoing sexual relationship.

The potential is certainly there, Jakester. There's certainly enough sex and nudity in the books that they could/should include in the series. I guess we'll have to wait and see how they decide to adapt it.

Otherwise, you should see it because Sean Bean is in it. He's awesome.

You go from nudity to how awesome Sean Bean is? I mean, he is awesome, but I'm not in a hurry to see Sean's Beans.

Seriously, though, the show looks like it has potential and it certainly sounds like something I'd enjoy, so I'll be watching it.

Whether you do or do not watch it, I would suggest acting like you don't watch it, and constantly asking really annoyingly frustrating questions about it. To which Jack will try to move heaven and earth to get your questions answered to get you to watch, only to have you ask more annoying and stupid questions as a result. It would be glorious!

That tears it, then. I won't watch it. I'll just catch the nudity on Egotastic or something. Besides, I've already seen Lena Headey nude before. I'd certainly like to see her nude a lot more often, though. Haven't seen "The Tudors."
You know who else I've seen naked? Sally Sparrow. And Anna Paquin.

I wasn't necessarily combining Sean Bean and nudity together for you. It was just an abrupt transition.

On a slightly related note, there's the possibility of seeing Peter's Dinklage. His character gets naked with a whore on several occasions....not that you really want to see Peter's Dinklage either. Now that we're on this track, will they film Mark's Addy? Iain's Glen? Nikolaj's Coster-Waldau?

Let's hope not.

Can't wait for this one, Peter's Dinklage or not.

On GRRM's blog, there's a picture of Maisie Williams, who is playing Arya Stark, practicing her "dancing" with the official replica of Needle. I always thought of Needle as more of a fencing rapier kind of thing, but this one looks good too.

That, and on his last blog entry, GRRM puts a very cryptic (((soon))) at the end of his latest entry. Hmmm.

I thought this was kind of neat: an audition tape by an actual actress (Charlotte Salt). I've seen a couple of fans who were amateur actors (and hoped to get in the show) put up readings on youtube, and they were generally pretty painful to watch. Even with a professional, it can look a little awkward, I think. I have no idea if this girl filmed this herself to send to the producers, but that's my guess.

One thing I thought was kind of cool was that the dialogue sounded almost verbatim from the books, even with Ser Jorah referring to Daenarys as a "child," when the actress is clearly an adult.

I thought I had misheard "Bring me my eggs!" and that it was really "Bring me my ax!"

Turns out she actually said "eggs."

It was more amusing when I thought it wasn't supposed to be "eggs."
